The Character That Made Financial Advice Impossible to Ignore

Everyone says they trust financial advisors. Few actually act on their advice. Tata AIA built a campaign around that gap, giving India's most frustrated professionals a face and a voice.

Challenge

  • Financial advisors spend every day giving practical advice that often goes unheard. Clients ask for bigger refunds, smaller tax bills and impossible returns, only to delay the sensible decisions that could actually secure their future. The frustration was universal, but it had never been acknowledged by the category itself.
  • The challenge was not explaining the importance of financial planning. It was making people recognise the advice they had been ignoring all along.

Solution

  • Instead of another campaign telling audiences why planning matters, we gave financial advisors a voice they instantly recognised. Every advisor has an inner monologue when a client suggests something unreasonable: a little sarcastic, slightly impatient, but always trying to help. We turned that voice into the campaign itself.
  • Finding the right character was just as important as finding the right idea. Saurabh Shukla became CA Paresh Shaan, a character who embodied the frustration, humour and genuine concern of financial advisors across the country. Across three films, he met three very different clients, each representing a key Tata AIA audience, but his message remained the same: it is perfectly fine to enjoy today, as long as you do not forget to plan for tomorrow.
  • By replacing lectures with humour and creating a character audiences could recognise and relate to, the campaign made financial advice feel less like a warning and more like a conversation.

Outcome

  • The campaign delivered a 2.87% lift in engagement, a 3.6-point increase in unaided brand awareness, more than double the industry benchmark of 1.5 points, and a 27% increase in people actively searching for Tata AIA online.
  • The work went on to win 7 awards at afaqs! Foxglove 2026, including 2 Silver and 5 Bronze across Content Strategy, Video and Best Use of Humour in Brand Video.
  • Perhaps the strongest validation came from financial advisors themselves, who began sharing the films organically because, for once, an ad was not just talking about them. It was talking like them.
